Bill Gates revealed his daughter was jealous of him meeting Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Rema during a business trip to Nigeria this week.

According to Hollywood Unlocked, Gates delivered his opening address on Wednesday at an event called ‘Advancing Africa: Unleashing the Power of Youth in Science and Innovation’ and co-created by Lagos business school Co-Creation Hub.

Channels Tv reported the moderated event aimed to gather insights and share perspectives on how science and innovation can help create a better future for Africa.

During his address, Gates talked about his experiences with technology and how scientific knowledge can lead to positive outcomes. He also encouraged Nigerian youth to pursue health, education and finance careers.

“You have the incredible potential to drive this country forward,” Gates told the students at the event.

The businessman and philanthropist said the country has struggled with gathering and allocating funds for future investments. However, he relied on the next generation of Nigerian men and women to tackle issues surrounding women’s health, food nutrition and ways to combat infectious diseases.

Gates also praised the country for its creativity and entrepreneurship while paying tribute to Afrobeats and how the music positively affects the world and his family.

Gates said his 20-year-old daughter, Phoebe, fell in love with the infectious genre and the Nigerian culture. She was jealous of her father, who met two of the genre’s most popular singers.

“When my daughter Phoebe heard I was coming to Nigeria, she said, ‘You’re lucky to go see Burna Boy and Rema.’ So, I had to look them up… because I’m so ‘hip,’” Gates explained.
