Where Is President Tinubu Driving The Economy? By Pius Okaneme

May 21, 2024 by AFRIPOL Leave a Comment

The president seems to be driving a raggedy vehicle like the yellow buses plying the roads in Lagos State that appear to have a freewheeling steering. He seems to be sailing smoothly on a sunny day as he is making policies with potential for economic advancement like the increasing of the federal government allocation to the States. His gear gets stuck within a blink of the eye like an erratic drunk wants to shift direction in the mud. Between his going and coming like the game of yo-yo he is playing with the foreign exchange, ordinary Nigerians are biting concrete at the rate of human suffering.

If any citizen accuses the president for being high on junkie sweets, the one should not be crucified for being disrespectful. How else could the people rationalize the disconnection between his policies and the social condition in the country. The news everyday is that Dangote Refinery will start distributing fuel to the pumps at the stations and that government refineries are ready to supply fuel to the streets. Yet, the price of fuel is going up everyday at the pumps due to lack of supply, and thereby, hiking the cost of transportation.

What is going on in the markets is disastrous. It is strange when the buyer is crying for the incessant phenomenal increase in the price of goods and the seller is upset at the same time for offering the price. The acrobatic flip in the availability of products and instability of prices cannot guarantee profit for the business person.

The poor walk around aimlessly wondering where the president is driving the economy. The final bus stop they see seems to be death by starvation. The ability for them to manipulate their little money between buying garri or beans to afford basic food for their families in the market is being exhausted. Most people are now living only on hope. They do not know what to expect anymore.
