Poem:  Miracle of Twenty Pounds (Biafra survivors)

July 1, 2024 by AFRIPOL Leave a Comment

written by Emeka Chiakwelu

While the doom lingering, counting, purging

Numbers of the desolate surging

Yesterday it was Umuoji sector

Today it was at Ogidi sector and many others

Misery was limitless, countless, overflowing

Carnage was deploring, deplorable

Mothers were killed

Sons were massacred

Fathers were hijacked, lynched

While daughters were desecrated, wailing with sorrow

The war remnant running, scatter

Son beholding mother

Mother beholding son

Father standing strong

Then a shadow of sorrow was closed

But you were offered twenty pounds?

Despite the wanton destruction

Of nature, lives, properties

The displacement, the starvations

Which book of history can document such wickedness?

Then the miracle starts….

A seed buried in sorrow

Sowed in hardship with tired hands

Seed buried in the soil of turmoil

Sprang up a miracle of overflowing

 The fruits blossom, germinating

Here comes the sun rising from east

A miracle was birthed

Flowing like photons of sun

Blossoming like rose of morning sun

A bountiful basket overflowing

Yes! Basket of abundance fruits, joy

Dwelling in everlasting prosperity

Thank God we are free, humanity prevails!

Poem dedicated to Biafra war survivors that transformed their lives with twenty pounds.
