Poem: Ode to Umuoji ! (nnukwu Obodo)

By Emeka Chiakwelu.

Umuoji obodo dike!

As the day becomes what it says

The outright sunny hour was the germination day

Foresight shining star beckoning, blossoming

Solidified with market days, especially mesmerizing Eke

While Oye, Afor and Nkwo were ramified

Yes! Umuoji was there, standing strong

Umuoji an ancestral land of our forbearers

Umuoji as it was named sprang up from Oji

Oji, the progenitor of Umuoji

Protagonist heroic warrior

Architecture of the foundational thought

Propensity of growth dwells a success

Umuoji beautiful land of warriors

Creating a bulwark the enemies could not penetrate

The streams of meandering water flowing

Flowing from the upper to lower

There it is the Ideakpulu flowing

Joining, confluence with Mmili Ideoma

Joy of the moment comes’

As the festivals brought by forefathers dwell

Nostalgia of Mmụọ Ifejioku re-echoing

As planting and harvesting endures

As the scenarios speaks volumes

Dissimilating the festive of Uzo-iyi

When spirits of masquerades resonates and rebounds

A land beaming with illustrious historians

Historic warriors

Of great hunters

Of great farmers that tilled the soil

Of intellectual minds and industrious hands

History was recorded with peaceful fingers

While voices of thought reigned

Let it be well with Umuoji

O’ sons of Umuoji walk majestically

O’ daughters of Umuoji sing with boldness

Maka Umuoji Amaka

The soul is plentiful with seeds

So heart bears joy as hand sows the seeds

May it yield plenteous fruits…

A harvest of great remembrance

As the morning sunshine cast on the land

May it be a diamond of wealthy dispositions…

Of love

Of Unity

Of reconciliation

Of peace

Yes endorsing as words of wisdom

Olisa gozie Umuoji

Igwulube okodu ! daalu
