‘Michael’ Jackson Movie Crosses $1 Billion Box Office Milestone

July 13, 2026 by Emeka Chiakwelu Leave a Comment

History has been made in global movie industry; a biopic movie ‘Michael’ that was made in the memory of Michael Jackson the greatest singer of 21st century has grossed and surpassed over one billion dollar milestone.

“King of Pop Michael Jackson’s biopic Michael continues to dominate the box office and break new records. The film has now officially surpassed $1 billion in global ticket sales, becoming the first biopic to achieve the box office milestone.

Michael Jackson’s movie has made $629.8 million abroad and $371.8 million domestically, totaling $1.001 billion worldwide. Since it debuted on the big screen in April, Michael has been smashing records and exceeding expectations despite loud behind-the-scenes controversy and a backlash from critics.

The film broke the opening-weekend record for musical biopics, set by 2015’s Straight Outta Compton ($60 million), with $97 million domestically and $217 million worldwide.”

Antoine Fuqua director “Michael,” issued a statement: “Reaching this extraordinary $1 billion milestone with ‘Michael’ is a deeply humbling moment that celebrates the tireless dedication of our incredible producers, cast, crew, and partners; this achievement belongs to everyone who came together with a shared vision to honor one of the greatest artists the world has ever known. I am profoundly grateful to the audiences around the globe who embraced this film, showed up in theaters, and connected with this story across generations and cultures. This historic milestone is a testament to the enduring power of cinema to bring us together, and it is a chapter in movie history I will never forget.”

Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of King of Pop portrays Michael Jackson. It is very interesting that Jaafar Jackson is the son of Jermaine Jackson and was the one that was finally picked to portray his uncle after competing with thousands of other actors vying for the job.  The movie chronicles the Michael Jackson’s journey from the formation of Jackson 5 to his emergence as the King of Pop.  I highly recommend the movie for the whole family for it comes with good memories on Jackson Five and the eventual emergence of Michael Jackson as the King of Pop. Great movie indeed !
