Collins Obinna chibueze aka Shaboozey “dedicated the trophy to his mother, who he described on stage an immigrant and retired nurse who once worked multiple jobs to support his family, which included the singer and his four siblings. Raised in Virginia, Shaboozey’s parents immigrated from Nigeria. During an acceptance speech after winning Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Amen,” a collaboration with Jelly Roll, a tearful Shaboozey said, “This is for all children of immigrants. This is also for those who came to this country in search of better opportunity, to be apart of a nation that promised freedom for all and equal opportunities for everyone willing to work for it.” He continued, “Thank you for bringing your culture, your music, your stories and your tradition here. You give America color.”
