Prince Harry gives UN keynote speech on Nelson Mandela Day

July 18, 2022 by AFRIPOL Leave a Comment

Prince Harry is expected today to address United Nations (UN) general assembly at its headquarter in New York for the celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day. The late Nelson Mandela was anti-apartheid leader and first democratically elected president of South Africa. Mandela was the leader of African National Congress (ANC) that ended apartheid governance in South Africa. He was imprisoned for 27 years for his struggle against apartheid and later became the first Black person to be elected president of his country.

According to South Africa’s UN mission it “will be around the memories and legacy of Mandela and what has been learned from his struggle and his life that can help us face the new challenges in the world today”.

“General Assembly spokesperson Paulina Kubiak officially announced the program for Nelson Mandela International Day on Friday, with Harry giving the keynote and participants including assembly president Abdulla Shahid, U.N. Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, New York Mayor Eric Adams and Guinea’s Foreign Minister Morissanda Kouaté.”

Racism, poverty, diseases and inequality are still rearing their ugly heads and must be confronted for the world to be progressive and fulfilling. So on this Nelson Mandela International Day the journey continues to rid humanity of all these evils. Prince Harry is expected to chew on these issues as he address the United Nations.

Prince Harry will be accompanied to New York by the Duchess of Sussex, his wife Meghan.
