Peter Obi Will Change Nigeria

June 6, 2022 by Admin Leave a Comment

Written by Pius Okaneme – Poet and Political Analyst.

What any critical observer will need to do is to check the trajectory of Mr. Peter Obi’s political life. I happen to know him from an impressionable stage when he was my senior at Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, Anambra State. I can honestly opine that he was not very friendly, generally, then as he was always serious. He carried himself like someone on a mission. Our principal, the visionary Rev. Fr. Nicholas Tagbo, held him in high esteem among other students because of his astute nature.

The distinctive quality of being a one man squad has never left him. He fights for what he believes. Most politicians and other officials that associated with him during his tenure as the governor of Anambra State all have a singular attribute about his personality. They consider him stingy because he reversed the usual trend of other leaders sharing public money with them. Nonetheless, they did not succeed in derailing his political career because the ordinary citizens have seen the virtue of his character and rallied to support his agenda in the state.

I once wrote that Peter Obi is not a saint but a capitalist. His tenure as the governor of Anambra State prompted this statement. He tends to have a blind approach towards accomplishing his mission. He will employ every strategy or like some of his detractors will say tricks to win in any given situation. He is clever like a fox and his heart is like a rock. However, the beauty of his political maneuverings is that he is always on the side of the ordinary citizens.

Nigerians should take him seriously when he says that he is a trader. He is very humble at heart and comes to dealing with issues from a need based perspective. Again, going back to his tenure as a governor, many people had expected him to build monumental structures to make his legacy visible to the public. But rather he built fundamental structures to elevate the social and economic foundation of the state. He poured a lot of money and other resources into education, health services, road constructions, industries and other areas that created relief for the masses.

Peter Obi will be God-sent if he becomes the president of Nigeria in this critical period of economic and security disasters. I have endeavored to highlight above the tools he has in his bag to fix the economic situation of Nigeria. The security situation in Anambra State was deplorable when he became the governor. Kidnappers were having a field day carrying people in broad daylight without covering their faces. And so were armed robbers operating carelessly shooting at occasions with machine guns ringing out smoke in the sky. It was a common sight to see people running for safety panicking for their lives at any given time. Most rich people relocated out of the state and took their loved ones with them. They rarely visited their homes and when they did, they came disguised. Peter Obi fearlessly dealt with this menace and cleaned up the state to a point where it became safe for residents to live and enjoy their lives.
