Ifeanyi Umunna, Nigerian American Elected President of Harvard Law Student Government

April 6, 2026 by AFRIPOL Leave a Comment

The Harvard Law student body elected Ifeanyi Umunna to serve as president for the 2026 – 2027 school year. Umunna is a daughter of immigrant parents from Igbo ethnic group of Nigeria.

” Osaze Osayande won a runoff election for the fourth 2L seat after three candidates failed to meet the original filing deadline. One 3L representative seat and the sole S.J.D. representative position remain vacant and will be filled by the next student government, according to current co-presidents Christopher E. Egi ’18 and Salah-Dean N. Satouri. Roughly a quarter of the HLS student body voted in the election.”

“Our primary issue or goal this year is to be responsive to the student body, as has been happening, and trying to do this year, whether it’s from things as small as supporting the university and the law school and providing free coffee to students, or something as big as ensuring that students who want to pursue public interest endeavors this summer have appropriate funding,” Umunna said.

“We just want to make sure that everyone is aware of what’s required of them to have access, equal access across all the years and all the programs,” she added.
