FELA – Black President!

FELA

FELA – Black President!

When it was dark his music talks to misery
When it rains his music shelters the homeless
He admonished the rich, powerful and reminded the poor to open eye
He was against injustice
He was against hell on the poor
He spoke truth to power with his trumpet

His poems were loaded with awareness
To see was to act
To walk was to move
To smell was to alert

Refusing to bow
Refusing to run
Refusing to hide

Proud to be African
Proud to be Black
Proud to stay put in the struggle

As he yapped about Naija
Yapping about Afrika
Yapping from another world – Kalakuta Republic

About what?

Its foolishness
Its injustice
Its greediness
Its stupidity
Its corruption
Its lassitude
It’s Ignorance
Its wickedness
Its close mind

Yes he became Black president!
Yes he birthed Afrobeat!

Yes The originator of Afrobeat!
Yes Afrobeat lives!
