During this hour of intra-party horse trading for the selection of presidential nominees particularly in the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), some candidates go for one another’s jugular. A lot of political manoeuvring and realignments are going on. Significantly, you will notice some empty resumes, chest beatings, and betrayals.
Some of the candidates behave like Nigerian voters are too small for them to engage rather they send out their sycophants and praise worshippers to speak on their behalf. While some are talking gibberish without making sense and without history of positive achievements they can point to. The remaining few behave like they have already captured the high seat at Aso Rock.
Many of these aspirants are running around, negotiating with many interest groups at the expense of average Nigerians. Majority of these candidates do not seem to understand the enormous tasks ahead, including the revamping of the already battered economy and the insecurity problems that have enveloped the country. Their major preoccupation is to be the president of Nigeria by any means necessary. Little wonder, some see party delegates who are to vote in the forthcoming primary elections as individuals who will easily be bought over by the highest bidder, unlike what is obtainable in a functional democratic society where candidates are considered on the basis of their track records.
Notwithstanding, handful of them are cool headed and appears to be ready for the difficult job of being the president because they are prepared and have been tasted in the past. One person that stood out among his peers is Senator Pius Anyim. While many are running around with false paragon of excellence, the gentle giant stand out because he understands the gravity of the country’s problems and have the capability and intellect to get the job done. From his antecedents he has proven that he can unite the divisive country and set the culture of excellence, fairness, patriotism and good governance.
When he was the senate president, he stabilized the turbulent seat and successfully worked with the executive to do good works for the country. When the government of President Obasanjo was jostling to get debt relief from international financial bodies, Anyim was in the background. During that period President Clinton of America came to Nigeria and addressed the joint session of National Assembly, Anyim was the steady hand in the senate that received the august visitor.
At this point in time, Nigeria badly needs a leader of repute who can tackle the numerous problems and challenges head on; particularly, with good faith and rationality that are lacking in the chemistry of governance and leadership in the country. A unifier that can speak with one voice and means what he says. Anyim is the man that can rightly pilot the affairs of the country aggressively with gentle touch and superior management capability that the country is hungry for.
Nigerian people and party delegates have a great opportunity to take another look at this illustrious son of Nigeria. Nigeria needs a cool headed leader with vision and capability that can move the country forward and direct Nigeria on the path to her destined greatness. Pius Anyim is hearty and read
Anyim is good but i do not know if he can handle many problems in that position. But he qualify, maybe his camness may be good in the troubled country. Igbo people deserves to be given a chance. But the problem is that many people in Nigerians do not want Igbo to be president because they think that they are already in business and are rich. so they will allow others to rule and not them.
This is the man to help Nigeria. You forget to say that he is a good lawyer and was the secretary of government. I have never see where they say he is corrupt but there was a time they wanted to probe him. He is an intelligent man but Nigerian government do not support intelligent people they prefer mumu mind. That man will make Nigeria better. I do not care about tribe or religion. I do care about who is good. Maybe he is the person or Peter Obi. Thank you.
Yes this is naija where everybody wants to be president. when everybody become president who will be the people. that man is not popular and he cannot win to be president. But who cares the country have spoiled so much. that nobody can make it well. The country is not working if he can do it . Well good for him.
